Ben Charnock – who impressed this term for both Westcombe Park and Blackheath – put Kent in front before Redruth’s Tom Cowan-Dickie struck back on home turf for Cornwall.
A penalty try and a second from Charnock pushed the reigning Division 1 champions ahead, but hosts Cornwall stayed in the fight with another from Cowan-Dickie.
The excellent Sam Evans (Tonbridge Juddians) and Matthew Shepherd swapped penalties in the second period, but a score from Camborne’s Harry Larkins just before the hour cut Kent’s lead to six points.
A converted try from scrum-half Mikel Davies 12 minutes from time created some breathing room for the visitors before another three points from Evans sent Kent to England HQ for a third year in a row.
And whether they will meet Yorkshire or Lancashire in the final on June 21st will be decided this coming Saturday when the ‘War of the Roses’ takes place at Woodlands, the home of Fylde RFC.
Last weekend, Lancashire opened their account with a victory over Somerset and Yorkshire followed suit after recording a 66-14 victory at Brantingham Park.
Sheffield winger Christian Hooper bagged himself a hat-trick on his county debut while Sheffield Tigers’ James Norman, Felix Crapper and Dom Parsons of Sheffield, George Mewburn (Hull Ionians) and Wharfedale’s Oli Cicognini were also among the scorers in Lee Denham’s first game in charge.
National Two North top points scorer for 2024/25 Lewis Minikin landed seven conversions while Hornets’ Owen Griffith and the dependable Charlie Carter dotted down for Somerset.
