Watch: Taunton Titans appeal for support following severe flooding

Storm Chandra has brought heavy rainfall and has impacted Taunton’s Summerfield Stadium after local streams and rivers burst their banks.

Flooding has left parts of the clubhouse “unusable,” and the club faces more than £10,000 in lost revenue alongside urgent repair costs.

To help cover the damage, a JustGiving page has been launched, and the club is asking the local community – and the wider rugby family – to support if they can. Donations have already reached over £11,000.

On the fundraising page, Taunton president Neil Symons explained that the club will need to pay around £10,000 to replace carpets, restock supplies, repaint and redecorate, and cover equipment hire.

Taunton’s 1st XV captain and Commercial Coordinator Nick Mason told National League Rugby: “We went up to our top pitch up towards the car park, and we just saw water bellowing in.

“We started putting the sandbags out and did everything we could to mitigate the damage, but the inevitable came.

“We managed to get home about 3pm yesterday, but my instincts got the better of me and I wanted to come down and see how it was doing.

“That was where the video was of someone walking through in their wellies.

“I was really concerned coming in this morning with how high it [the water] may have gone but today, a lot of the water has gone so it has been about clearing out the remaining water, ripping up the carpets, taking off the skirting boards.

“The support has just been incredible. Tuesday was really tough, emotionally, thinking about what might happen to the club, but today has been the polar opposite. The support and the overwhelming comments, it’s absolutely amazing.

“We’re hopeful to get rugby back on here as soon as possible.”

National League Rugby Chairman John Inverdale added: “All clubs, players and supporters in NLR send best wishes to Taunton and hope the water subsides as quickly as possible.”

Taunton’s next National Two West home fixture comes against Chester on February 14th with away matches against Luctonians and Hinckley before then.
